Yes, you can rev match and completely eliminate any shock. Before shifting into "N" it's best to let the tach settle to its lowest level, ensuring the transmission is in its highest ratio. Then, if you're keeping level speed, just rev back to where it was. To do that, you're using almost no additional fuel, it barely affects the instantaneous gauge at all -- it takes almost no throttle to spin the engien without any load on it. (likewise, idle in neutral takes very little fuel, the gauge indicates >150mpg even at fairly slow speeds)
On the HCH-1, Neutral coasting is still worthwhile because without the valve shutoff feature of the HCH-2, you get tons of engine braking when coasting in drive. Even though you don't use any gas, you are using up your momentum to pump a bunch of air through the intake and exhaust. In most situations, this amounts to more of a loss than the fuel consumption at idle. On the HCH-2 though you get the best of both worlds -- the ability to coast in gear with no fuel consumption, and minimal engine braking due to cylinder shutoff.
