How Often Do You Buy a Higher Grade (Premium) Gas?

I've probably done it 2-3 times in the five years of driving my Insight. Did not notice a difference.

once, and that was because they were out of reg.gas and they set the price of premium the same as reg. This is a large grocery store here in Texas and I really didn't want to use premium. As I was finishing filling the tanker showed up.No difference either.Kevin

My reasons for not buying Premium Gas:
  • In recent years, the additives that clean the fuel injectors are now in the lower grade gas.
  • A hybrid assist is the ultimate accelerator.
  • Save money, obviously.
  • Did not notice a difference.

now it may be a temperature difference from one fill-up to the next, but the last time i used premium it seemed to be much easier to keep a higher mpg reading. like the lean-burn window was wider or something. so.... for 20 cents per gallon (= 20 cents per day), i will splurge on premium. if this was my jeep, fergetit. 5 gallons a day = an extra buck to get back and forth to work.

Sadly my '91 Colt uses 91+ Octane, so I have to give it regular feedings of premium or she'll ping. Poor thing just wasn't designed to use regular gasoline, can't retard the timing, and if you do (manually) the catalytic converter will die in a year. Thankfully I don't drive all that much.

Tried 3-4 tanks of premium - no difference.

Tim I cleaned up your deleated posts.

I fill up with the good stuff whenever I get gas at a Shell station on Tuesdays.

Seriously.

Shell has super Tuesday and all gas is the same price. So far I've only done it once, this tank actually.

Sorry about the bogus posts - I was trying to *discretely* figure out how to get the GreenHybrid mileage database picture (with hyperlink) into my signature and didn't see the "preview signature" button... :-)

Sorry for the extra junk - I think I have it figured out.
