Different cars make different statements, too. A Prius makes a lot different statement than an HCH, and most people don't even realize an FEH is a hyrbid, and then the only statement Lexus hybrids are about is performance enhancement.

I can creep in my MT Insight and it will AS again.

Oddly enough, I haven't gotten much attention in the Insight, even after I added the 75 mpg decal. I was expecting to get a lot of questions, but I guess after 8 years people have seen one by now.

Nonsense, you must have us confused with:

I think you need to head over to CleanMPG for your lamentation. But to answer point-to-point:
  1. Driving slow - The short-cut streets and access roads have slower speeds and I drove at or just under the speed limit. This is how I've always driven so I can enjoy the trip and think about other things.
  2. Pulse and Glide - I don't use it and my studies indicate it is of marginal use. It is fine on a limited access track or traffic free areas but otherwise, nonsense for practical driving in traffic.
  3. Refusing to inch forward - BULL! Our electric motors creep forward very efficiently, silently and without noise or vibration. Owners of hybrid electrics know this to be a fact.
  4. Drafting life away - Go to CleanMPG.com to speak or lecture to the drafting advocates. Heck, one of them once claimed we'd driven them off . . . but then we don't always see eye-to-eye about efficient driving.
  5. Smiling at the service station - Waste of time, nonsense.
  6. Sense of Superiority - only because we know the truth about hybrids.
No my friend, you've come to the wrong place. Visit CleanMPG.com.

bob, i am not sure of the need to refer to another site just to answer some questions. also, i really wish one wouldn't always assume that by hybrid they mean only a prius.

my HCH, except for the sticker that i have reading 60MPG, looks like any other civic. unless a person is up close, you can't tell.

driving slow: most highways have a minimum, and the speed limit is just that.....a limit, not a requirement. by driving 5 below the 65MPH limit on my commute to work, i am saving gas. it is often stated every MPH over 60 reduces your usage.

pulse & glide: again, and i think i have mentioned this before, that to me is a technique that can also involve letting the car slow when there is no traffic behind, and increasing speed when needed, no matter what kind of road you are on. i can see the difference in my gauge in the FE that i am getting. perhaps that's the difference between how a prius and a honda work.

drafting: obviously this person believes the press. it's an idea that was mentioned once in a story, however, the press has run with it even though it's been stated on several sites (this one included) that it's not safe, and the idea they have of hybrids living off the back bumper of semis just doesn't seem to go away......sorry, i just don't see it out there, and certainly we are all aware of how dangerous it is. another example of don't believe everything you read.

inching forward: my honda turns off at the stop, and doesn't start up again until i put it back into gear, or let the clutch out. i see no need to move forward until i am ready to drive again. so what.

smiling at the pumps: and this would be a problem why? i see it as a non issue. but if we do, what's wrong with it? there are so many grumps out there, why not cheer up?

superiority? in some ways that's true, in that our vehicles get superior fuel economy compared to most out there. do i feel superior? probably not. do i feel lucky not to be spending so much to go where i go? yes, i sure do. do i feel like the rest of the drivers out there really ought to be thinking about how much they are wasting? yes.

Since so many of the troll's complaints come from practices encouraged by that other site, it makes sense to send them where they can be happiest.

I try not to answer for other hybrids, just the one I have some knowledge. I figured the other hybrid owners and advocates would chime in as they have time and I've even learned something. I was under the impression the newer HCHs had a valve trick that allowed them to run on battery alone. I didn't realize this did not allow creep at a light. I knew the old Insights lacked this capability which led to the '5th wheel' Insight.

As individuals, I figured we'd each answer the troll in our own way. This is as it should be because we are not two dimensional charactetures . . . in spite of what this troll or the hybrid skeptics claim. So fire away and I have no problem with different answers than mine . . . the difference is just as important as the areas we agree upon.
