Default Hybrid joke of the day - used Hybrid prices

This last weekend I stopped by a FSBO (For Sale By Owner) used car lot and saw a nice red Prius. Just had to look at it even though I don't "need" a new/different car. It was a '05, it did have leather and it looked to be loaded to the hilt. Now comes for the funny part - the price - $31,500!!!!

I was real curious so I went to KBB.com, a LOADED '05 w/1,000 miles (I don't know the mileage of this one) was at a private party value of $26,420 in my area. What the heck are these people thinking???!!! There is only a $7 a week fee for parking the car on this piece of property. No sales people, no special commision if the vehicle is sold while parked on this property etc.

That price has to be an early April Fools Joke. I don't think someone who is sane would post that price. Anyone else see any carazy hybrid prices lately?

.

'00 Insight "Wazabi" -75,000+ miles
'03 Toyota Matrix - 81,000+ miles
'03 HCH-CVT-OSBM-41,000+ miles (retired 04-10-06)
"I'm very secure with my little Insight, no Prius envy here."

A year and a half ago I saw a used Toyota Prius at a Toyota dealer. They were asking more for the used car (about 35k miles, no leather, no nav) than the MSRP on a brand new car fully loaded. Of course that was when the dealers had a waiting list for a new Prius. I laughed as I walked to my car. I now have a Honda Accord Hybrid.

yeah the used prices for Priuses are strange. I saw the same thing a used 04 for more the MSRP for a 06. I think the waiting list makes strange thing happen to the price but I'msure there is good room for negotiation. ME? I thought they started on such a silly price that I went and bought a new car from another dealer.

It's also interesting to not that there was no leather option for 05 so they must have installed leather seats themselfs

The waiting list for priuses is almost gone. It will be interesting to see what happens once the supply for Priuses har good enough (though I suspect Toyota is keeping is low on purpose).

Still waiting for my new Prius to arrive. Hopefully next week!

Last year the local Toyota dealer had an '04 Prius for sale. They were asking more for it than the MSRP for a new HCH. Needless to say, I got the HCH instead (and avoided the 9-month wait for a new Prius).

When I (finally) found a Prius for my wife to test drive, it was a traded-in 05 pkg4 with 7k miles. It was listed for 24k and my wife liked it, but I didn't take it because the stereo wouldn't play MP3s (and that's all I listen to). I started walking away and the dealer dropped 1k TWICE as we walked to the showroom. I ended up signing papers for my new baby, which came in 12 days later. When I first started looking at Prii, I found another trade-in, an 04, on the same lot. Both trade-ins were gone the following day.

.

Change what & how I drive, not who I am. Rack 'em up.
