I recall reading something about so called claims of "increased mileage," "more horsepower," "improves fuel economy," etc.

Do you ever see bottles of mystery juice on the shelves of automotive stores that have a claim on them that says something to the effect of, "add 5-7 hp just by using this product?"

The article said most people never see any improvement. And the reason their claims aren't considered false advertising is because what they're really saying is if your engine is performing worse than it originally did, and you use their product, then the product will restore some of the power you lost.

So in order to see any benefit, you'd have to have some sort of loss, which that product can remedy either partially or wholly. But reading the packaging, one would believe you'd get more power on top of the rated power of the engine.

It's been several years since I saw that article, but it's stuck with me all these years.

The Sep. 05 Popular Mechanics magazine had some of those "snake oil" products they did tests on. On "their" test vehicles the products didn't show any improvements and in some cases caused worse mleage.

Yes, to date, there is NOTHING which has ever been scientifically, repeatably shown to improve MPG - no fluid, no device, nothing ever.

There have been THOUSANDS of devices which SAY they do that, but so far, no one has ever provided incontrovertible proof that any of these things work.

While Wayne described the radiator "block", one can also install a block heater to keep the engine a bit warmer in the winter time.

I have purchased, but not yet installed, the block heater. I will do so at the next oil change at 50K when I would normally change the anti-freeze.

Fantastic point... New 2007 exterior option... dimples. Maybe they could just put a texturizer between the primer and final coat.

Have to ask my areospace engineer about that one.

Ya don't see too many airplanes with dimples. The reason a golf ball flys farther with dimples also has to do with the angle it is hit and backspin. Dimples provide lift so that you can hit at a lower angle puting all your power into hitting "out" instead of "up".

Hi Lakedude:

___No, I said it because air resistance over a smooth body has to do with the laminar flow “layer” and waxing doesn’t do squat to smooth out that flow.

___Good Luck
