Hi All:

___In regards to a cleaner earth, I do believe this will come about as the SULEV and PZEV become the predominant vehicle of choice or via legislation being sold here in the US in the next decade. The US’ lakes, rivers, and streams are cleaner then they were just 3 decades ago and with ULEV’s on up, the air we breathe should in fact come around as well … I can only hope so anyway?

___As for ½ the automobiles being hybrid’s … Not if the costs are still in excess of $3K to $6K over and above a std. ICE automobile. If a Hybrid’s OEM costs were to come down to < $1.5K, then they will most definitely.

___Good Luck

Yes, Wayne...you can hope so! The Earth does clean itself. I offer the following evidence:

1) Rivers, lakes, and streams: Self cleaning. In fact, our wastewater treatment plants use physical and biological techniques in much the same ways as our natural bodies of water. My aquarium filters do the same thing, but on a much smaller scale.

2) Air: If particulate matter never left the atmosphere, we would still be choking on the ugly, massive, traumatic air that was polluted by Mt. Saint Helens' eruption of 20 or 21 years ago! If foreign gasseous matter never got absorbed back into the plant life in the oceans and on the land, then we'd still be smelling stale dinosaur farts from 65 million years ago! Pheeeewwwww!

3) Land: I tilled my mom & dad's garden for years. We threw all kinds of organic waste into it, including dung. The soil is deep, and rich, and dark. And everything grows huge! Side note: It's funny how we'll put it in a pretty bag and call it "manure." We know what it is, and yet we'll still pay actual money for what's basically a big bag of sh**.....um, well, you get my irony!

Granted, if we're careless, or if we just simply produce too much waste in too small of a geographic area, then we'll have localized problems, such as parts of LA and New York. The Earth can and does clean itself, but it does have it's limitations. It needs time and opportunity. The real beauty is that time and opportunity are both offered by the use of hybrid technology!

So Wayne, I believe that your statement of "a cleaner earth" certainly holds promise!

No doubt I'll get slammed hard by my comments above, but that's okay. It's just my opinion.

Hi Bif:

___You won’t be slammed at all!

___What may happen however is that the PZEV tech will become widely available in the std. ICE based automobiles in much larger numbers first. I have a feeler out in regards to how many PZEV Focus’ have been sold and I bet it is quite a few more then 04 Prius’ to this point. The same can be said of the std. Accord PZEV, Camry PZEV, Jetta PZEV, etc. …

My predictions:

It will take about 5 years for hybrid models to be accepted by the general public because pricing will be lower with more competition and gas prices will have stayed on a steady rise. Foreign hybrid SUVs and trucks will start eating into domestic sales.

2007, GM will still be saying there’s no future in hybrids.

The hybrid Ford Escape won’t be out until sometime in 2010. <_<

I think we'll be seeing a great deal more of hybrids over the next five years. It will be interesting to see if Ford (Escape) finally gets it right. I seriously doubt it. I'd steer clear of them because of other issues (exploding gas tanks and Exploders to name a few).

Toyota is definitely the one to watch since they have such a jump on the other manufacturers. I am looking forward to seeing the stats for the Lexus 400H (probably will CREAM the MDX and other mid size SUVs). It seems like the next few years will be quite interesting.

I'm quite happy with my '04 Prius. Definitely glad I chose that car. 46 MPG YTD. Definitely beats my Dad's '03 Corolla too (he gets 29-30 suburban driving).

eh, hybrids will come and go, electrics will come in full force as mass gridding becomes more clean (thermo, tidal, solar, wind) all clean sources of energy

Hi Djasonw:

___As usual, you know little about the MDX, the Corolla, or even your own Prius. It is quite a shame actually …

Now, now. Don't make me recite an aphorism your mother told you years ago.

I think we all understand what Djason means and do not have to scrutinize every word to ensure complete accuracy. We all know that I misspeak more often than I'd like. Pretend he can ban you from the forums!

Um, er....yeah, what Jason said. Just the other day, I defended you on another forum. Please don't make me eat my own words!
