If Toyota is selling the Prius like hotcakes, why don't we see this advertised on TV commericals. With the next vehicle being the Highlander, isn't it time to start educating the public? Otherwise Honda will, and beat Toyota to the punch.
I think you answered your own question. The Prius is selling so well there is no need to advertise and frankly, I think the sales people (at least the ones I've talked to) would prefer to keep it under wraps. They can't keep up with demand as it is. Besides, they make much more $$$ on SUVs so they tend to put their advertising budget into that. Sad.
I agree that for the most part, advertising isn't needed for the Prius. Commercial advertising, at least. In California, there are still ads, but Toyota is not reliant on them. The press takes care of that.
I'm sure it will be the same deal as the Highlander -- the media will educate the public and Toyota will ensure that everyone knows this is an "upgrade", not a downgrade. The Prius can be criticised because of its 10-second 0-to-60, but the Highlander will be more powerful than its predecessor.
