hypermiling bad for your health?
i have been having a lot of trouble with plantar fasciitis on my right foot. i went to my chiropractor for an adjustment, since i have been walking funny to keep the pain down and thus everything else is out of whack. he was asking if i had injured it, or could think of anything that would have led to it. i mentioned the new car, and that i have been driving differently than i used to. we came to the conclusion it was aggravated by my pulse and glide technique, which requires holding my foot above the pedal a lot. he said i had to USE CRUISE CONTROL. i wept....

Now you have to weigh the mpg - vs - pain threshold. Sorry to hear that . Maybe using the cruise controls accelerate and de-accelerate buttons might achieve the same results as pulse and glide. Just a thought

When I broke my right ankle back in October I found out that the accelerator can be worked very nicely without bending at the ankle at all. I rested my aircast on the pedal and just used my upper leg and knee to vary the pedal position. Pretty much the same motion that is used on the brake and/or clutch pedals.
On the other hand, look at the health benefits of the Hybrid - lower blood pressure, reduced stress, enjoying the scenery more, etc.
Hope your foot heals quick. Mine feels like a toothache every morning, especially when it is cold outside.

Re: hypermiling bad for your health?
I actualy just rest my foot on the pedal when when I'm gliding. I always have my heal on the ground as a pivot and hasn't caused any problems yet. Good luck with the foot. Maybe you can adapt and find ways where you can sitll get stellar milage and not injur yourself.

hey, wayne, i didn't exactly say i was going to do that.....hee hee. it's been snowing again, and using cruise is out of the question.
it's not the ankle it's the bottom of the foot, feeling kind of like a bone spur. very painful, no matter where i place the foot, cruise control or not, so i may as well keep my mileage up.....don't take my star away yet

Ah yes, HFS - "Hybrid Foot Syndrome". Sorry to see that you've developed it - just think, maybe you're first case. We could change it to LHFS to name it after you. I hope that it doesn't kill your FE too bad.
