There is considerably less energy available in sunlight than many people believe. If you could convert at 100% efficiency (current solar panels are close to 15%), you'd be getting ~1.5kW/hour per square meter.
That'd be enough to give you one hour of electric power after 48-hours in the sun. For that marginal amount of improvement, you'd need to consider the impact of the additional weight.
Solar panels on houses are a different story. They can be much larger and their added weight doesn't really impact how the house operates.
