Default The little pictures next to your name.

Hi everyone, I have a dilemma, I see everyone with a pic next to their name and when i go to the user cp and try to make one it always says my images are too big. I asked jason and he gave me a real nice explination, of which i was totally lost im not the best with computers , but i have some nice pics from my digital camera i would like to use. Can someone explain in real laymens terms how to get a pic from my own pics to my name on here? Thanks for the help. Dean

You need to load the pictures in your computer and use some editing program. Your camera may have supplied software to view them and may have an option to resize them. I would guess your on windows so I realy can't help you with the resizing bit as I'm not that familiar with windows. if you want to e-mail them to me I could resize them for you and uploade them to the share section so you can use them for your name.

I will send you a e-mail that you can reply to with an attachment.

Download Irfanview if you want to try and resize yourself.

The photo has to be 75x75 pixels or below, and the file has to be 19.5K or smaller.

Here's what I do:
Create the picture. Mine is many times larger than the Avatar requirements to I use an editing software.
There's alot of them on the net that are free/shareware but personally I use Photoshop Elements.

First I select what I want in the picture and crop the unwanted areas.
Then I resize to 75x75 pixels.

I check the filesize and upload to the website.

Personally I like making those animated jobs but those are more envolved.

I recommend The GIMP - http://www.gimp.org/

It's a lot like Photoshop, except that it's totally free and open source. Works in Windows and Unix/Linux including Mac OS X.
