Just this week, Gov Schwartzenegger's "Let's Make Green Sexy" speech was really promoting biodiesel.

Like many things in life, a lot of it is attitude. If someone comes seeking answers, a search for knowledge (and not a student term paper,) they find a friendly place. But we've had a fair share of folks come to GreenHybrid with a chip on their shoulder, another CNW Marketing wanna be.
When someone comes with a bad attitude of "teach me the magic driving tricks you hybrid drivers are using" or "you're all hypocrites because you could be 'more green'" or "haha, my <insert_vehicle_of_choice> does better than yours" or "<magic_technology> makes your vehicles obsolete" that I pickup the facts and data and reply with a "clue by four."
Now if someone wants to discuss the thermodynamic characteristics of diesels and different hybrid systems, I think we could have a great technical discussion. If they want to discuss the integration or conversion of an existing hybrid from gas to diesel, again, I'm all up for that. These would be interesting technical discussions and might even lead to experimental testing and validation. They would all fit within the charter Green and Hybrid.

This seems to be dismissive of drivers taking responsibility, yet the database clearly reflects good driving makes a difference. Yes, I've advocated hypermiling, but my critical remarks are reserved for speeders - stuff that is obviously ungreen.
You're "I'm greener than you" remarks are a bit puzzeling as I've tried to welcome the diesel drivers - not a bad attitude.
The best tools can be ineffective if in the hands of people that don't care - just like ordinary tools can be used very effectively. Personally, I prefer a good driver and vehicle.

Imagine all the pollution we would have if all our trucks ran on gas instead of diesel.

I don't see the big-rigs giving up diesel any time soon, so I think biodiesel and clean diesel tech is worthwhile, along with Volvo's hybrid work in that area.

Biodiesel
Not diesel...
Now, if some marketing genius came out with a Hybrid Biodiesel, California would LOVE it

Re: looking at hybrid vs desiel
I'm aware that biodiesel is different from diesel - in a positive way. The diesel drivers would run a lot cleaner....my only regret (or envy) is it won't work on gas engines.

CO2 itself is not a poison. I believe CCS, or carbon capture and storage, technology is soon to be available.

My personal opinion is I don't like dirty biodiesel too.

The beauty of diesel is that a biodiesel fuel should work in a regular diesel engine with minor tweaks. The other beutiful thing about biodiesel is that the existing infrastructure for fuel delivery can be used. This is not the case for ethanol, hydrogen, NG, etc. All of which require major tweaks to the car and infrastructure.
biodiesel from algae.
