Default Re: May 15 Gas Out

Not buying gas on May 15th is complete crap. All you will do is delay the money going to the gas companies by one day. It will make no difference and no one will care. If you want to make a real one-day dent in oil company profits, DON'T DRIVE YOUR CAR ON MAY 15th!! (even us hybrid drivers) Take public transportation, ride a bike or at least carpool.

And even more important would be to talk to your congress people about improving fuel efficiency. If you took all the money we spent in Iraq and put it toward finding renewable sources of energy, we would likely have the problem solved by now.

I never could understand the logic behind these gas out days. Its like holding your breath, eventually you have to get oxygen to your brain.
It would be something if those who have to get gas on the 16th or 17th get hit with a price increase.

Best way to make a difference, is to reduce your consumption. Switching from a 15 mpg vehicle to a 45-55 mpg vehicle, as some of us have done. I now burn 2,000 less gallons of oil each year. Now, that's making a difference. Not this Gas Out...

.

Stop Global Warming Now...Block the Sun.

57-60mpg in recent tanks.
60mpg@60mph
Burn less foreign oil...get a hybrid.

Well it looks like I'll not be buying gas on the 15th by chance as well. Got a long trip planned the 13th and will fill up that Sunday.

2 things:

1) If people really wanted to have an impact they would need to quit driving the entire time it would take to normally drain a tank, something like a week or two. A single day would only be a fraction of a tank for most all drivers.

2) I want gas prices to go up so as to provide motovation for folks to purchase smaller more fuel efficient cars/trucks. Too bad I won't need gas on the 15th....

No gas May 15th will not work. Only thing accomplished will be an easy day for owner/operators. Example: Normal day consumption average per car is 3 gallons. End of day on May 16, vehicle will need 6 more gallons to top off their tanks. Resulting in no loss of consumption for big oil/gas.

Boycotting 2 selected brands, say Exxon and Shell will not have an affect also. They will end up selling their product to remaining brand staitions still selling to make up for the laws of supply and demand. We don't buy Exxon or Shell, we have to buy gas somewhere else right? Again only persons taking it on the chin are the owner/operators at the boycotted stations.

Better explanation on my posts below.

True. I forgot the whole point of the gas out is to lower prices for the big whiney babies in gas guzzlers.
