Re: Micro Fueler
Great find.
Just looking at the stock market, I think if you buy in BULK BULK BULK sugar is about 12 cents to 15 cents per pound. Saw from Brazil sugar is $190 per metric ton... if you buy 1 million metric tons. I think a metric ton is 2,200 pounds.
I think, just ballpark, 100 pounds of sugar will = 7 gallons of pure ethanol.
The yeast is cheap, like 50 cents per 7 gallons.
Looks like home brew is about $2 a gallon, not $1, but it is an interesting concept.
The real savings will be turning waste, sugary by-products of other things into ethanol.
Clean table sugar IS cheaper than gasoline, but only ~30% ? less?
Waste products are really cheap, or free!
( How about scraps from a bakery, or candy store??? )
One suggestion from the web site was to collect waste from bars and breweries.
How cheap can you get spoiled or out of date Budwiser? Sure, it's only 4 gallons of ethanol per 100, but it could be nearly free!

Re: Micro Fueler
Uh, yea:
Under urban legends, Huntsville AL was the home Werner Von Braun and the rocket programs to space. As the various rockets and systems were being tested, a respectable amount of scrap metal including stainless steel tubing became available. It seems our local moonshiners found stainless steel tubing to be excellent material for making stills.

Re: Micro Fueler
5 gallons per day, worth $4 a gallon.... $20 a day.... x 365 days a year.... $7300 of product.... subtract input costs, and maybe, it will pay for itself in 4 years?
It's like the hybrid arguement tho: Cost vs. Payback is not the only reason to buy it.
There is a certain "coolness" factor to making your own fuel.

There is also a certain "drudgeness" factor in cleaning and maintaining your fuel making equipment which is conveniently omitted from the linked website.

Re: Micro Fueler
Maybe, but maybe not.
If it hooks up to your city sewer, and I think it does, it is mostly automatic.
How often do you have to clean the inside of your dishwasher or clothes washer?
I'm not saying it is that simple, since I have not seen it. But it could be.

Re: Micro Fueler
Perhaps, we'll have to wait and see. I was thinking it will be more like the home brewing where I hand wash everything because cleanliness counts.

Re: Micro Fueler
home brew takes what... 3 weeks? Longer?
Lots of time for infection and spoiling. Cleanliness DOES count for sure with that.
Here, we brew in hours, not weeks. There's not much time for spoiling, and I think it may "steam sterilize" between cycles, kinda like a dishwasher.
