Default New Pennzoil Hybrid oil

I did a quick search on this and did not see a thread, I hope I am not duplicating anything.

Pennzoil has announced a new oil ( http://www.sema.org/images/pdf/HybridReleasefinal.pdf ) just for hybrids. I haven't seen anything on their web site, but the announcement gives a price for a complete oil change. I hope that they sell it in stores since Mobil has quit making 0W-20.

Billy

I know absolutely zero about oil, but is "oil for hybrids" the equivalent of the diet pill scam? If the hybrid system doesn't actually touch the oil, there's no reason why any separate oil would make a difference.

According to the pdf its 0W20 oil so it probably is a good thing. Most of the rest is just marketing talk trying to differentiate themselves from other makers of 0w20 (is there any now that mobile stopped making it?)

Also the fact they are calling it penzoil platinum means they are likely going to gouge the consumer for it. We will have to see what comes out of it. But on the plus side I think all the jiffy lubes all use penzoil so it may be that we can take our cars there and get proper oil for our cars.

yeah -
but is it a synthetic? Honda makes (or has made by mobil I believe) a regular oil in the 0w20 grade. what we need is a sythetic in that grade since mobil is bowing out.

I believe the press release said it was synthetic.

The oil is synthetic, as someone else said. I looked around for it tonight at Pep Boys, Walmart, and O'Riley's. No luck. They did have the synthetic Pennzoil, but no 0W-20.

A search of Pennzoil's website produced no results, as did a search for 0w20. The pdf did say that this was going to be available at their jiffylube or whatever... It didn't say anything about general availablility.

I went to every Pep Boys and AutoZone in the area, and scored 13 cases of 0w20. Since I plan to keep my HCH-CVT for at least 150K miles, and I am on the severe maintenance schedule, I figure I need at least 3 more cases. Either that, or use the 5w20 in the summer, and save the 0w20 for wintertime.

BTW, the Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 has its specs on-line:

viscosity @ 40C______46.5
viscosity @100C_______8.7

Herbal bust enhancer, anyone? Or how about some "mileage increasing" additives for your gas?

FYI,
I was a the NAPA dealer in Clinton, NJ, to purchase something else, and grabbed 16 quarts of Mobil 1 0w-20. When I told the nice lady that it was hard to find, she said she had 900+ quarts at the warehouse. I ordered 4 more cases.
