My hybrid premium was erased within the first year considering the tax credit and fuel savings.

This is compared to the savings if I would have bought a similarly loaded Civic EX.

It replaced a 10 year old 4 door mid size sedan that did 16-17MPG.
In that case my savings have been no less than fantastic.
I used to pump 15-16 gallons of fuel 2.5x a week.
Now I fill 13-14 gallons 1x a week.
Outstanding.
How many miles did that translate into? My example is under the assumption of 10-15K miles a year.

i retired my 88 jeep grand wagoneer (12 mpg) in favor of my new-to-me 2000 insight (65 mpg). i now use less than a gallon of gas a day, instead of 5. the fuel savings pays for the note on the car and one out of the two tanks of gas per month! apples-to-oranges? who cares???

still use the waggy to pull the boat though. the insight cant quite manage 3500 pounds of trailer.....

.

2000 Honda Insight. Kenwood MP3 head unit, Blaupunkt door speakers, dual Cobalt amps, 3 MTX stealth subs, 4th very-high-mounted brake light, Sumitomo tires, yellow-top, hot induction air mod, tinted, SG2, MIMA, center armrest.

best tank 82 mpg

I was driving my Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel ('99) as my commuter vehicle. Costing me (at the time) > $90 to fill up (Katrina era run-up).

Now, I fill up about every 8-9 days for about $25. The difference has more than made my car payment on my HCHII. The Dodge is still in service, but only used to pull our 31' 5th Wheel trailer (Sunnybrook). Since most of our camping trips are local, we can go months on a fill-up now.

Not to make this a contest or anything, BUUUTTT...

I've had my 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid II for a little over 3 months now. I've driven ~ 7500 miles. I've consumed 152.9 gallons of fuel @ a price of ~ $370 ($2.4/gal)

I used to drive a 1995 Jeep Wrangler which only obtained 18 mpg. Would have consumed 416 gallons at a cost of $1000 (every 3 months). In the last quarter I have saved $630 or 263 gallons of fuel.

Now, my commute is 35 miles each way in Southern California, and I get to use the carpool lanes. It used to take me 1.5 hours to get to work. Now my commute is around 45-50 minutes.

When I was 16 I use to ride a mountain bike, I did about 2000 miles a year and consumed approx 0 gallons of Petrol. Later on in life I bought a honda insight, it now consumes approx 1 gallon of petrol for every 42.3 km traveled. (2000km/42.3mpg = 47.28g) My insight consumes 47.28 in additional gallons of gas to travel 2000miles then on my mountain bike at an aditional cost of $118.20.(47.28g*$2.50=$118.2) Riding a bike saved me $118.20 and saved the earth 47.28 gallons of petrol over my Honda Hybrid

I put on about 36K the first year, and at year two it's at 60,000 miles.

I hope to drive around 10 years and around 300,000 miles.
My battery use is extremely light and barring any unlikely major malfunction I plan to save a bundle of money with this car.

Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT
