I don't know. I see a lot of Priuses on the HOV that are carrying *exactly* the same number of people as my Insight. 1.
Regrettably, we see numerous Cadillac Escalades and Ford Expiditions also carrying the same number of occupants as your Insight: [1].

The "3L" was not "aforementioned," just the Lupo since I make it a point to quote directly. According to Wiki, "Volkswagon Lupo" it came in five different engine configurations: 1L, 1.4L, 1.6L gasoline and 1.2L TDI, 1.7L. In the ambiguous world of "Lupo" models, a UK web site lists the mileage as "41 MPG." I don't know if that is an Imperial gallon.

In fact, it won an award according to Wiki, "2001 Fleet News Award - Best Micro Car."

Unfortunately it is no longer in production and the tax credits apply only to 'new cars.' Not my rule, the tax code.

Still, it looks like they implemented "auto-stop" in the turbo-diesel to improve mileage. Also, the engine, if cleaned up for USA emissions, would make a fine engine in a Volkswagen hybrid. Just take either a Jetta or Passat body, add the electric parts and power by the diesel and there would be a nice diesel-electric hybrid.

Yet I've never seen an Insight carry five adults, like I have with my Prius, with stuff in the trunk. In fact I loaded up my Prius with four of my fellow engineers to get lunch.
