Default A Prius or Insight in my future?

Tonight my wife & I were discussing our next vehicle, as we plan to sell the Grand Caravan early...in about 3 years.

This was the first time she really looked at the Prius online and really liked it. She wants either #1 for the lower price or #6 for "The stuff".
On the other hand she likes the Insight's potential MPG range...Provided they still make them at that time.

Personally I'd like a Prius to compare side by side to my HCH.
I think it will be interesting to see what develops in the next 3 years.

You didn't mention it, but I would vote for the HAH. I realize you don't get much MPG bang for the buck, but I think it would be a good replacement for the GC.

my jetta is the same size as a civic

get the Prius its the size of an accord

leg room in the back for a civic/jetta sucks and the insight is a two seater.

get the larger trunk and leg room of the prius.

plus the prius gets better MPG and less emissions

don't mind the cost get the toy.

Thanks Flare & Billy;
My wife likes the Prius for its unique appearance, stealth mode and gadgets.
She suggested I go for Insight's MPG but I'd feel guilty owning a car the whole family can't climb in.

Looks like Prius is the likely winner and would make a nice complimentary comparisson.

The HAH is tempting and who knows in 3 years the FE is likely to improve even more.
The need for a mid size vehicle was discussed and we agreed that on those rare occasions we could just rent. For example, Lowe's home improvement will rent you a 15' flatbed truck for only $15/hr.

Troy:
Thanks for the suggestions- but a diesel isn't on the table.

You are not buying for 3 years correct? I think more models will be added in the next three years than in the last 3. It is bordering on pointless to talk about today's models because it is likely none will be around in current form in 3 years. Perhaps the HAH and the Escape will remain unchanged, but the HCH an Insight will be all new for sure. The Prius in on the bubble. It is new enough that it may or may not be updated in 3 years.

None of the hybrids currently avaliable are apples to apples as I'm sure you already know. If you are replacing a van the logical choice would be the Escape. By considering the Insight you are clearly not looking for a replacement for the van, so it is hard to tell what you want.

I'm sure you already know all about the existing hybrids so what is your reason for asking the question? Why not a second HCH? Maybe a manual next time? You like your HCH do you not? I like mine but it really depends on what YOU want.

Hi Lakedude:

___Yes, 3 years from now could mean anything. We might all be purchasing a Chinese brand Diesel-Hybrid from Walmart? I hope not but who knows?
