I've always kept all my cars for 10 years. I began this post in my exitement in deciding to break my rule and toss the GC ASAP.

You're all correct of course in that alot can change in 3 years, and now it is mostly speculation. I watched how the "new" 2003 HCH did for a year before taking the plunge myself, as well as using that time for research.

Who knows, perhaps Christler or GM will get it together by then.
We really want our next car to be "out of the ordinary" or "extrordinary", a hybrid car that really stands out. In that sense Prius is extrordinary, and we'd also like to drive on "the other side of the fence" of hybrid technology. Today's Prius fits the slot perfectly. Maybe tomorrow they'll have a new George Jetson design with bubble top, fins and Tucker's "3rd eye".

___Hot_Georgia_2004, the cool thing about having a decent job (it sounds like you do) is that at some point, you can upgrade and to hell with any cost analysis. It may not be the smartest in terms of maximizing ones dollars over your lifetime but considering the next gen whatever usually has higher safety ratings, better fuel economy, more performance (well maybe not more performance ), and a much more modern look, if you have the cash, consider replacing it today instead of next year or decade. That is if it fits your overall financial plan. I sound more like an American then my general ultra-conservative mindset but sometimes the “feel good” can make the difference between hating what you drive for the next 3 years or enjoying it. Just another thought …

The beauty of Honda/Toyota is that they last a long time. I'd prefer to drive mine as long as it lasts, especially since it is a very comfortable and pleasurable car to drive.

Seeing as how I just met a service tech who has had one since 1987, it will probably be a while before my Civic dies...
