Thanks for your help in my previous post. I have make a decision and decided on purchasing the new Prius. Thanks. I am glad to join all of you in the board.

I would like to know how would I be able to receive the HOV sticker before the license plate? The sales manager told me when I bought my car, he said that he has customers who got the sticker before the license plate arrived. Also, when I drove to work today, I’d saw a new prius with stickers but doesn’t have a license. I wondered if anyone know how to get the sticker sooner? Thanks for your help

As far as I know, you currently cannot successfully request California Clean Air Vehicle stickers until you have your license plate number -- though you do not need to have the plate itself. Ask your dealer how to expedite the process of having the DMV assign a plate number to your car. The dealer can make the process very fast, but there is a cost of some effort on the dealer's part. The means by which you paid the dealer may be an issue; if you paid by personal, uncertified check, he is on the hook until your check clears.

There is also the question of whether there are any stickers left. The enabling legislation authorized 75,000 stickers for hybrids, and they were just about gone. There was a bill authorizing an additional 10,000 stickers for hybrids, but I don't know where that stands.

Note that if your car is registered in one of the counties around San Francisco Bay, you must obtain a hybrid-account FasTrak transponder before you request the stickers (your FasTrak paperwork must be included in your submission to the DMV). You don't need the plate number, only the VIN, to request the transponder.

The HOV sickers in Calif are HISTORY.......the limit was reached several weeks ago.It was published in the LA Times.....Sorry you missed the boat but things could change and maybe more will be available later down the line.

So how does it work now? If someone has an accident, are the HOV stickers stolen off the wreck? Do gangs wander through the parking lots doing "smash" "scrape" and "grab"? Do forgers make 'fake green cards,' 'fake social security cards,' 'fake birth certificates' and 'fake HOV stickers'?

Greetings! I am new to the forum and just noticed this post.

Maybe I barely made it under the wire, but as of 2 weeks ago, the limit for HOV stickers was actually not reached.

I purchased my HCH II on Aug 27th, got the license plate number from the dealer (calling DMV) on 9/8. Then, I mailed the application w/ $8 money order (this may have helped) and a handwritten note asking the "kind folks to expedite the application." (this may have made a difference...)

They received my app on 9/11. And, today, 9/28, I picked up my HOV stickers from the post office! Sweet.

By the way - there is a bill pending in CA - it is currently on the Gov's desk - to release a (large?) number of stickers starting in Jan 07. I remember signing some online petition a few weeks ago. I'm sure you can find it somewhere at the CA site.

Our governator (Arnold) signed the 10K extra stickers, but not sure if that needs Federal DOT blessing before CA DMV starts doling out this extra 10K. I am just hoping to get my soon.
