Individuals can certainly be smart, but, as a whole, people ARE stupid. That applies to any subject.

Nothing and no one can be as bad a president as littleG Bush.

I spoke personally with John Kerry regarding energy during the 2004 presidential primaries, so I have a bit clearer picture than most at least where he stood. He was (and remains) against drilling in AK. He did not have a specific conservation platform agenda (such as tax breaks), although he encouraged the approach. His main interest, no doubt reflecting his many years in the foreign relations sub-commitee in the Senate, was the vulnerable position the US was in due to foreign oil dependence. He would have pushed alternative energies development aggresively.

No where near what I want, but quite different from the bush recipe of war and exploitation.

I'm amazed that you think speaking to a politician gives you any insight into what they would do in office. You must be quite out of it to think that they don't just make things up to sound good with no bearing on what they actually do in office.

Reynolds .. I am sorry to disappoint. Perhaps I can redeem myself with some clarification ?

I did not say 'certain' death. I said 'high risk'.
These people had 24 hours advance notice before landfall. The substantial risk of death was NOT from 100 MPH winds, or pelting rain; it was from DROWNING. New Orleans is 5 - 10 feet below sea-level, and one day prior to landfall, the levees were expected to collapse, turning the city into part of the neighboring lake. The immediate concern to save life was is get out of the fishbowl. A day of walking would have been more than enough. It would also have put them in a place where aid could reach them.

Do you remember the Tsunami of SE asia last year ? The people did the only rational thing. They went to high ground.

So, where was Senator Flip-Flop standing at the time? On the deck of his luxury yacht, his rich wife's private jet, or maybe in one of the several SUV's he has? The clown didn't get elected because he can't stand for anything - he changes his stance on something depending on who is asking the question. You know, he was in favor of the war before he was against it.....

I believe he is also against a wind farm off Cape Cod because it might spoil the view for some rich people like his partner in crime Teddy......

Situations change, requiring a change of opinion. It is what *thinking* people do. PARTICULARLY, as in the case of Iraq, when the initial stance was based on information that was either flawed or corrupted -- depending on your POV.

Cowardice and lying, however, are traits that last forever.

I would agree except that Kerry wouldn't change his position based on being more informed on a topic or a changing situation - his position at any given time is based on the audience at that moment. His only *thinking* was that he could fool enough people and get elected president.

I'm sure as president he would have accomplished as much as he did as Senator here in Massachusetts - nothing.

Two things:

1. Bush did not "lie" to anyone, and I wish the lefties would get off that. They assume it is the God's truth, when in reality, it is just a false accusation. Bush went with the best intelligence data available at the time, not just our own - ALL the Western countries agreed that Saddam had WMD. It's not a "lie" if it is truth as you believe it WHEN YOU SAY IT. Just because it becomes untrue at a LATER DATE does not RETROACTIVELY make it a lie, back when you said it, when you believed it to be true. See?

2. Bush "got us into" nothing. We were attacked, and we feared that Saddam would help the terrorists get WMD that they would use on us at a later date. The goal of the war was/is to protect US citizens from attack in the USA at a later date. In that goal, it was/is a noble cause. Getting to them OVER THERE before they get a chance to get to us OVER HERE. See?

OK enough of that

lars,

The CIA intelligence was filtered and skewed by bush and his cronies to support their desire for war. Similar to what they do with science, to support the ideology of the day.

OK, enough of that
