For the first three years that I owned my 2003 HCH, I was a district manager for a cellular phone company. Thus, on any given day, my daily commute could be anywhere from 100-300 miles. On the highways, I freequently exceeded the EPA estimate. I usually got 51-53 MPG and I'm no hypermiler. I pretty much just drove the car. Period.

My profile shows a different mileage now. I changed jobs 18 months ago and am now a civilian employee of the State Police (I run warrant checks). My drive is now 4.1 miles downtown, 100% stop-and-go, many traffic lights, and a top speed about 35 MPH. So now I average 40-42 MPG. Alas!

.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.

The HCH is not the best heavy stop-and-go hybrid vehicle. Instead, it excels at highway style driving.

So the HCH2 *does* have an EV mode? Most of my commute runs at fairly low speed.
