Re:PRIUS-CIVIC HY-HH-
Terry,I kinda goofed.Somehow I ended up with 2 Guzzlers-Titan,Pilot,and one non guzzler-Chevy Prizm(Corolla).The Guzzlers get 12-15 mpg city-21Titan and 24 Pilot hy.The Chevy gets a decent 25+mpg is the worst city"city".
The 2 guzzlers were on the block prior to Katrina, but they were awfully useful evac vehicles(we live 4 miles from that 17th sterrt canal break, but we didn't flood-still evaced to Flagstaff and waiting to go home). The HH is the only Hybrid with the kinda volume we need(3 adults,2 greyhounds,3 cats lotta stuff).Unfortunately the HH is now selling pretty well after a kinda slow start with the poison pen NYT articles. They now are full MSRP+.A base model would be ~$33000 with ,so it would take at least $15000+ the Pilot to get one.Worse my wife worked at Charity Hosp(New Orleans) and it probably won't reopen. She will be given an option to work somewhere else within 100 miles(200 mile roundtrip commute).A commute like that would mean only a Civic Hy or Prius would make sense.Downside of them is that they now go for~$25000!
I think we will just end up waiting untill the general Hybrid supply increases-I expect this to be maybe 1-2 years.Maybe we will wait long enough to see a 4 cyl HH or maybe a Hybrid with a exhaust turbine driving an alternator to improve Hybrid hy mpg.Well, that is it.
psyshack-We might get a regular 4 cyl Accord. If we need to do a long commute, then the Accord would be a good choice-nice hy comfort, good HY mpg,and safer more comforytable than the Prizm.Loads-$6000- cheaper than either of the 2 small Hybrids(Prius-Civic)Thanks.Charlie
