First, define the term, efficiency, which can be defined many ways. Then read this discussion:

First of all, as a general rule, when you ask for help, providing as much information as you possibly can always promotes a response, especially a more informed response.

Now, if you're trying to determine just how much more fuel efficient one vehicle is than another, the experiment shouldn't be that hard.

Given my affinity for the FEH, let's use that as our testing group.

Take 3 Escapes, a standard model, a V6 Model, and a FEH. All should be either FWD or AWD, no mixing.

Fill all three until the fuel is spilling out the tank, then drive all three vehicles one after the other until they run out of gas, and see how far they got. The farther they go, the more fuel efficient they are than the other versions.

I would guess that you'll find the V6 ran out of gas first, the standard next, and the FEH lasted as long as the V6 and the standard model combined.

Seems a bit juvinille, but that'll work as a test. Do that a few times, change the route, play around, and there's your expiriment.

Or, since one tank isn't much of a representative sample, try looking through the vehicles in the database here. Not every car recorded is a hybrid. Bob tracks his Echo, and many others track non-hybrids, too. Find someone tracking, say, an Accord and compare it to all the Accord Hybrids here, or compare a Civic and the HCH's. Click on their mileage posts to get more details, enter as much data as you can, and see what comes up. Don't compare the Prius or Insight, though, cuz there's no non-hybrid equivalent.
Or you could do entire classes of vehicles. Pick every non-hybrid tracked here and compare it to the averages by model. Lots of things you can do for this.
