Thank you for helping me pick out my new car!
Dear all,
Well, my 2001 Honda Civic EX was recently totaled. (No one was in the car at the time. It was a serious inconvenience, not to mention time I didn't want to spend chatting with my insurance agent, but all told not a disaster.)
On the up side, I am now a very happy owner of a 2003 HCH. I had said when I got my 2001 car that if Hybrid technology were just a little bit more established, I would have gotten a hybrid then, but I'm not by nature much of a trend setter, and at the time I was nervous about the new technology. Seven years later, I am really delighted to be able to follow through and show that I am true to my word.
Anyhow, I wanted to thank everyone here for many of the posts on this web site. There was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted another Honda Civic, as I loved the one I just lost, but all of your input was very helpful as I considered the choice on whether to invest in the Hybrid version this time around. This is a community that I'm proud to be able to join.
I've had my new car only a few days now, but so far I am very happy with it. I've been driving around a lot more in these past days than I normally do, just trying to tie up all sorts of loose ends (after all, I just went a week without being able to run any errands at all!) and so I've had a lot of time to begin to get used to the new car. Tomorrow I'll probably put the first new tank of gas in it since I got it (the dealer sent me home with very little gas...) and when I do that I'll start to log mileage and so on for real. I am looking forward to seeing what it looks like when I am back to my normal driving routine.
Take care, all.

Welcome aboard! This site has been an excellent resource for me to learn how to drive these amazing cars. I'm sure you've been to the HCH forums, but just in case you haven't, search them and you will find a lot of good stuff about how to get the best fuel economy. Keep us posted with your experience!
Commuter car, grocery getter, and summer road tripper--average 10k miles per year.
Winter road trips and ski trips, bad weather commuter and my wife's "daily" driver--expected average 4k miles per year.

Re: Thank you for helping me pick out my new car!
Congratulations, and welcome to the hybrid family!
I just bought a used 2006 FEH 4WD a couple months ago and have enjoyed averaging 29.3-MPG, and it is nice to once again have some "luxury" features in a vehicle (i.e., leather, moonroof, navigation, etc.) like I did in a previous vehicle several years ago.
I have a 2005 Honda Civic HX (manual) and average 44-MPG. Other than being disappointed with the interior build quality, the car has been great, especially with FE, which is the reason I bought it. After 81,000-miles, it just had its first repair -- new front brake pads. Other than that, it has only required oil changes, tire rotations, and a couple air filters. I'm sure you enjoyed your as much as I have enjoyed mine.
Take care!

I'm sure you will enjoy your 2003 HCH I. I owned a 2004 HCH I and the only trouble ever had was the battery suddenly dying as they tend to do. By the way that was the battery under the hood, not the ones in the back that give us the good mileage we get.
1978 Plymouth Horizon - 165,527 miles, still the longest lasting
1985 Dodge Daytona - 62,500 miles and the transmission gave out
1991 Mazda Protoge - A very good car
1997 Ford Contour - This one saved my life in a driver side impact accident
2000 Pontiac Grand Am - I have a bulls eye painted somewhere, this one was rear-ended
2004 Civic Hybrid - My first Honda, My first Hybrid, ran 88,300 miles before the tax rebates came calling
2007 Civic Hybrid - Going strong and a joy to drive

You may soon discover that one of the joys of a hybrid is we like to drive them. <grins>
