Default Top 5 HCH Hypermilers - Wow

This is amazing and fun.
I just got my all-time record tank, 66.6 MPG for my 04 HCH CVT AT-PZEV.
Here are the leaders, neck and neck.

Standings:
Name CVTorMT? #Tanks MPG-AVG
rjbarlow MT 9 60.4
Lakedude MT 21 60.3
Kenny CVT 27 59.5
Hot_Georgia CVT 42 58.9
buzz70 MT 74 58.9

So Hot_Georgia is in a tie with Buzz79, but Georgia has a CVT so he gets more brownie points.
Lakedude HotGeorgia and buzz70, to you guys have the AT-PZEV?

It is amazing what these little Honda Hybrids can do.
The MPGs just keep getting better.
I'm not sure if it is because the car is more broken in or if I am.

I am having so much fun I'm considering getting an Insight an becoming a 3-digit Hypermiling God!

What stinks is I can get a 60.3 on a trip, or even 1/2 my trips on a tank. The problem is the other trips bring it down. Driving when we go to lunch will drop it from 60mpg down to 54 or so.

I've done a couple of things to increase my MPG...mainly a slower accelleration, especially in the 0-30MPH range, generally taking it more easy and using less assist.

Another thing is that I've set a 900mile tank goal. It always seems just barely out of reach for only about 20 miles.

Last night I drove home in buckets of pouring rain with a 30-40MPH direct headwind on the edge of tropical storm Dennis. I tried and tried to do what I could but averaged 10-12MPG short for that trip goal.(Did 56MPG)

Ok enough with my excuses, I've got some catching up to do tward my goal!
Thanks for the encoruagement

Efficient drivers do it better.
1003 miles a tank personal record. 74MPG calculated. HCH1 CVT

Mine is a "regular" ULEV Civic with a manual.

I noticed you left off our "leader" rjbarlow and his Eco Car, any reason?

He and I have talked and his mileage is a "blend" of about 25,000 miles of old tanks that he does not have fill data for so he used the only info he had which was the display. He has 3 fake tanks of about 7500 miles each entered using the display data. For the new tanks he is using calculated fill data.

My lifetime display shows 62.4 for comparison.

What kind of terrain do you guys have on your commutes? Also, what are the speed limits and such in your area? These conditoins more than anything I bet make or break the hypermilers. I've managed 54.4mpg on the display for the last 2k miles on mine (It's probably about 51mpg in reality, the display tends to be optimistic) which I think is pretty good given my drive. At first before I used any specific FE techniques I was at 40mpg on the display, which was even then the highest mileage of my neighbors. I've calculated that the hill I live on top of costs me about 5 MPG compared to what I would get if I lived at the bottom. Steep grade with lots of stop signs, day in day out, up and down. Short trips still absolutely decimate my average when I have to take them.

As I've been going along though, the main place Iv'e been improving is with my throttle control on the highway. Even at the same average speed as before, techniques like driving with load, and planning things out to give myself space so I won't have to brake and accelerate as much have helped immensely. Braking more slowly to maximize regen has also helped.

I just wish I could throw out all the tanks from before I became a Greenhybrid participant. Before: 47mpg After: 58 mpg (and increasing).

::sigh::
