Default Toyota flash gone mad

Hi,

I wish I could endorse this Toyota site about their Hybrid Synergy Drive but they've gone 'flash' mad and apparently designed it for four year olds:

http://www.hybridsynergydrive.com/

The content is unusually light-weight and the Flash downloads exceed the bandwidth of my xDSL link. After five minutes of waiting for innocuous content, I had to leave it. Even now, it looks like I need to restart my browser since it is using more CPU time than it should. I would complain but they probably use a flash module.

I have become quite resentful of the over-use of flash content over the last year or so. My computer, which is now four years old, used to have no problem watching the typical video posting because of core software efficiencies, but thanks to flash integration as the driver of most video content, the CPU overhead is making it impossible. Sure, I'm due for an upgrade, but I really question the value of obtaining cutting-edge CPU speeds just to drive one aspect of media-rich web content. It's wasteful.

I agree wholeheartedly. Toyota's web site has become over-the-top with respect to unnecessary Flash content. My computer is a 5"x7" tablet that connects to he internet via an EDGE modem (115 kbps). The Toyota site is an agony to load.

They are certainly not the only offenders out there. SonyEricsson and Nokia are pretty tough to load too.

What I'd love to see are mobile-weight versions of popular sites. That way they could be viewed on phone browsers or computers with small screens.

.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.
