Default Undergraduate dissertation about hybrid car use

Dear All,

My name is Gordon Hewitt and I am a fourth year student at Trinity College Dublin, studying Economics and Sociology. As part of my degree I am required to complete a dissertation, and through my research I have decided to conduct a study into whether society's attitudes towards automobility and car use is changing in the light of global warming. Of particular interest to me are the new technologies emerging that have been introduced to reduce green house gas emissions such as the Toyota Prius.

As part of my methodology, I am planning to conduct a number of interviews with hybrid car users. I am currently looking for interviewees, and was wondering if anyone living in Ireland or the UK would be willing to be interviewed about their experiences. The interview would take about an hour and would have an informal structure. I was also thinking about conducting a number of interviews over the internet, using chat software programs such as MSN messenger. If anyone is interested in either meeting me personally or being interviewed over the internet, please do not hesitate to contact me at hewittg@tcd.ie. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Gordon Hewitt.

gordon71,

I think you will find Americans more interested in hybrids than Europeans - the reverse is true of diesel cars. Also, Americans drive more and are probably less interested in fuel economy.

Also, only a percentage of hybrid drivers drive a hybrid because the want to help fix gloabal warming. Some hybrid drivers don't believe in global warming while others don't care about it.

My guess is only about 35-40% drive hybrids because of global warming. At least in America.

Dear all,

I have previously posted a topic looking for prospective interviewees for my undergraduate dissertation on the Greenhybrid main forum. I must thank everyone that has helped out and for the great suggestions I have recieved.

Following some suggestions, I am going to post a few questions here. I would be most appreciative if you could take a look at them, and email responses to me at hewittg@tcd.ie. They should not take too long, but if you could elaborate on your points it would be very interesting. Any help would be great.

The questions are as follows:

What were your reasons for purchasing a hybrid car over a more traditional form of automobile?

What are the main benefits you have got from driving a hybrid?

What do you think about Global Warming and Climate Change, and do you see links between society's use of the car and environmental degradation?

Do you live an environmentally friendly lifestyle overall by say recycling, driving as little as possible, insulationg your house, purchasing organic food, limit the amount of flights taken to a minimum etc.?

Are you a member of any environmental organisation (e.g. Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth)?

What do you see happening in the auto industry in the future?

Thanks a lot for taking an interest in my work,

Gordon Hewitt.
