Unscientific survey (my office): Hybrid attitudes
I've been a somewhat long-term hybrid driver, and many who work with me know this. As I am one of the few people under 30 in my office, many would joke with me about driving a "hippie mobile".
These SUV-driving jokers are no longer joking, they are beginning ask me serious questions about my hybrid. In the last month, I have noticed a large change. Nearly every one of them has asked about what kind of mileage I am getting, and some are seriously thinking about downsizing. Of course, I am trying to sell them on the benefits of a hybrid.
So, it would appear that SUV drivers are changing their attitudes toward small cars. Anyone else noticing this?

Re: Unscientific survey (my office): Hybrid attitudes
I have seen a shift in the last 2 weeks at my office, and several have traded SUVs for more fuel efficient cars.

Re: Unscientific survey (my office): Hybrid attitudes
Don't worry Brian, I'm over 30 (by 20 years) and I'm getting the same questions. Today at a meeting I said to a friend next to me "41.8". He says "huh?", I say, "That's my mileage on my current tank." Suddenly I was inundated by questions.

Same here.
Where I work, I keep a low profile about it, but have heard comments from both sides of the aisle. One guy called hybrids tin cans that he wouldn't want to have to squeeze into. (I just smiled to myself and thought I wouldn't want to pay the money he has to to fill the gas tank of his SUV.)
But the other day another fellow co-worker called me over for advice as she was looking on the internet, comparing various hybrids.
I notice quite a few hybrids in the parking garage...Prius', HCH's, a Camry, and an Altima Hybrid so far.
~~update: my coworker's son (she was researching on his behalf) bought a used HCHII.~~

I work with engineers who can all pretty much do the math. You look at your commute, figure the time it'll take to make a return on the investment, and make the decision. Yes, there are hybrids in our parking structure, but you'll also see Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Chevy Aveo, and Hummer H2s (we are in Detroit).

Re: Unscientific survey (my office): Hybrid attitudes
I haven't had much of a negative attitude where I work except from 1 guy. He's one of those guys that prefer the old muscle cars. He didn't think the TCH had enough power when it needed it. I explained to him it had enough to do the job when needed. I've had a few women ask me how my gas mileage was doing. For the most part they continue to live in ignorance. Now if someone would only come out with a hybrid minivan.

Re: Unscientific survey (my office): Hybrid attitudes
Well I mentioned I got 90+mpg after Wayne's hypermiling clinic and the boss tried out FAS on his accord hybrid the next day. Our workplace even had a mini "Live Green in Plano" in the auditorium where a good few of the same booths I saw at Live Green were there. Toyota was here raffling a GPS device and supposedly had hybrids in our parking lot (I don't know how many people actually went out to look since I do work at a tech company and there are quite a few hybrids in the lot already). Something is definitely afoot as the place was pretty packed. Got to see a demo of rain catching systems and they were handing out free lil trees to plant.

Re: Unscientific survey (my office): Hybrid attitudes
Put me in the group of folks who dumped their V8 SUV for a hybrid. Between lower payments and gas savings, I'll be saving about $450/mo. Oh, and lower insurance and the tax credit.
