Keep in mind the source of that comment. The Calgary Herald supports big oil. They know which side of their bread has been buttered, and by whom.
Also keep in mind it's too late to "avoid" the consequences of too much CO2 in the atmosphere. It's already happening. We are running the experiment. All we can do now is "correct" it. That will take quite a few years, from the science I've read, even if we -all- cut our CO2 emissions to zero today.
Not to say we shouldn't bother. Just that going crazy about it is rather pointless, as we are already in the middle of the experiment to see what excess CO2 will do.
