Vehicle before your hybrid
As the new kid on the block I was curious about what vehicles members had prior to their first hybrid.
I recently turned in a 2004 VW Touareg V8 for my Highlander Hybrid. The Touareg, when it wasn't flashing warning lights, was a beautiful SUV, the interior was spectacular. However, the draw of a lower lease payment PLUS the fuel savings was enough to make me move to the Highlander. I estimate my total monthly savings to be around $250 with gas at $2.50/gallon. (My Touareg was averaging around 14 mpg)
I also liked the idea of Toyota reliability, something I did not have with the Touareg.

1993 Ford F150 supercab, which I got 15 mpg on. I am giving it away to charity this month, it has begun to deteriorate to the point that it is not usable. 193k miles.

I had a manual transmission, '91 Camry with 180,000+ miles that was getting 32 MPG. Our other car is an automatic, '01 Echo with 25,000 miles that is getting 32 MPG.

Re: Vehicle before your hybrid
1973 Bug (I was the fourth in the family to call it "my car")
1985 Corolla (purchased used)
1989 VW Cabriolet (my first NEW car)
1990 VW Fox Wagon (grad school car, purchased used)
1998 Explorer (first "family" car, and I had a very short commute)
2000 Audi A4 (paid my father-in-law an amount that was well under Blue Book)
2005 Prius
Loved every one of 'em, especially the Bug. The Audi was a great car, but terrible for commuting.
