Toyota dealers were one of the major reasons we went with HCH2 rather than Prius. We could never find one in the area that had a Prius on-site, and two we talked to were charging $2K above MSRP.

Former cars:
80 Chevy Citation (got rear-ended. 34mpg. Woo hoo!)
79 Ford Mustang (great college car)
93 Ford Probe 4-cyl. (LOVED it)
00 Ford Focus (despised it)
02 went carless. (No point in having 2 cars in Manhattan.)

Partner's former cars:
90 Honda Accord
97 Honda CR-V (great car)
06 Honda Civic Hybrid

Yes, we're just slaves to brand names.

Am I weird for having SUV-guilt over a CRV?

I'm very close to buying a Prius. Working with several dealers now.

BTW, the best price in the Northern Virginia area seems to be $500 below MSRP. Anyone around here do better?

Anyway, my current car is a 96 VW Jetta with 101K. It's a great car, and I still get 30MPG. I'm giving it to my 16-year-old daughter.

It sounds like I should get high MPG with the Prius, since I already drive my Jetta (5-speed manual) in a similar way. I always anticipate traffic ahead and stop lights and try to minimize braking.

Looking forward to saving gas money (and being green) on my 55-mile round-trip commute (not to mention driving in HOV lane on I-66).

I wouldn't feel guilty about owning a CRV. It's basically a tall car, not a land yacht. I'm sure you get at least low 20s for fuel economy.

.

Hope is like a candle held against the night.

the vehicle immediately before my hybrid was a honda crv. when gas spiked at $3 last fall, it traded it in on my HCH, and more than doubled my mileage.

.

Best fill 66.7 MPG, best tank 801.5 miles
