Default what is next? prepaid gas?

I wonder if any of the big 3 will come out with a gas car that has all its gas prepaid.

what you do is purchase a vehicle that has x middle EPA. Whatever they decide the 'real world ' is on average -say 25mpg , they then take 50,000 miles and thus come up with 2000 gallons. They multiply that by a discount rate of $2.50 per gallon , then incorporate that into the mrsp price.

they then give you a credit card worth that amount to use at any gas station .

Ford is already doing that for many of its models purchased in July (including the F-150 and Escape Hybrid) -- free gas through the end of the year.

Personally, I think it's pandering and goes against a manufacturer's attempts to be/appear "green". The natural reaction to "free" gasoline is to drive more, which is not what we all should be doing -- hybrid vehicle or not, but especially not those in conventional ICE only vehicles!

{shrug} Whatever sells, I guess.

The amount given to you in that Credit Card would be added to the price plus a markup to cover their burden costs and expected profit. A $1,000 Card could cost you an extra $1,500 in the MSRP of the car plus taxes. Then when you buy the gas using the card you pay more taxes.

Trust me is not economical to buy gas from a car dealership, which is what you would be doing.

Best Tank = 54.2 mpg (Sep. 9'06)
Best Trip = 61.9 mpg
