What is your primary vehicle?
Hello All!
I've been reading around this forum for a bit, and enjoying my little Prius for some time. I've come to the conclusion that my hybrid car is simply not practical as a "Primary" mode of transportation. When I drive my Prius, I pay more attention to the fuel economy than I do to the road, and I've been directed to drive in an unsafe manner (Slower than everyone else) in order to save fuel. Add to this the lack of acceleration on freeway on-ramps, and I’m a statistic waiting to be tolled. (Death toll)
Additionally, I can’t have more than one other person in the car, because they simply won’t fit, and I can’t go on a shopping spree, because any significant purchases won’t fit in the car either.
So I have come to the conclusion that most folks who own hybrids must also have a “Real Car”, as their primary mode of transportation. I’m hoping that (Almost) everyone here will chime in, and tell me what their “Real Car” is:
So, What is your real car?

Re: What is your primary vehicle?
I have a MMH and 96' c280 MB , and our primary transportation is the MMH. My MB is only used for my daily commute. All other trip, including my wife's hectic daily commute is via the hybrid because it uses less gas (23mpg MB vs 27mpg MMH - not much but helps when it all adds up). All long distant trip (about 4 times a year up/down CA coast) is with our MMH. All weekend outing is with our MMH. All shopping trip is with the MMH. When my MB dies, I will prob get the first PHEV for my commute (or EV if/when there is one). I traded in my other "real" car for the MMH.
Paying attention to fuel economy has made me drive much safer...I'm no longer a speed deamon. I'm more attuned to drivers around me (esp behind me since I start slower now for FE, whenever I know I dont affect other drivers). I slow down more gently to a stop light and signs. In neighborhoods I drive at speed limit now since I can stay in EV that way - again safer than I normally would.
I've driven in my co-worker's Prius and it seems a lot more roomier than I expected. He claim he uses his Prius for his daily commute, and more often on weekend than his minivan.
My real car is the hybrid, and I am no longer in the market for a gasoline only mode of transportation. I find that hybrids is better in efficiency in 99.9% of what I do with an automobile, and 99.9% of anything I want to do with an automobile. When something else arrives that's more efficient and fit my lifestyle, you know what I'll be buying.

I'm so sorry to hear this. So how much are you asking for your Prius?
What year?
How many miles?
What options?
What color?
When can I come over an take a look at it?
Where?
Bob Wilson
ps. My NHW11 Prius is my primary car and the backup is a 2001 Echo. I have a trailer hitch on the rear and could move up to 1,450 lbs of fat friends in a pinch.

Only have time to respond to one of your numerous baits in your post.
www.fueleconomy.gov classifies the Prius as Mid-Sized - a lot bigger than a MiniCooper. It has interior room similar to the "tiny" Chevy Malibu.
61.5mpg lifetime - 82mpg in recent months

Not by me.
I consider responding to this post as a violation of the "don't feed the Troll" rule, but here I am anyway...

With that statement, I strongly suspect you've never driven a Prius. The Prius has better acceleratation than quite a few cars.

Now I'm sure you are trolling. My Prius is way roomier than my '99 and '98 Civics. I fit a HDTV in mine, plus the TV stand, both in large boxes, something that would have been impossible in a Civic.

Your real car should be a Yukon. You will be able to fit hundreds of pounds of bait and large tackle for some productive trolling...

Re: What is your primary vehicle?
My real car is a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid.
My fake car is a 2010 Aston Martin that has 900 HP and gets 62 MPG in the city. It goes 0 - 60 in 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 248 miles per hour. And it still gets 62 MPG while accelearting that fast and driving at top speed.

I think you question has validity. I am sorry others on this site don't see it.
I have many different vehicles in my stable. I collect different automobiles due to their personal collectibility.
I own the following:
1983 Oldmobile Cutlass Supreme (set up as a hot rod and this is shown weekly during the summer months)
1991 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer (set up as a trail rider for fun)
1989 Ford Crown Victoria (former detective car, kept due to family relation used to drive daily for job, plus its fast)
2001 Dodge Durango (used to cart all five of my kids)
I have other vehicles in my stable, but not enough time to list them all

Delta Flyer,
Please do not ever respond to any more of my posts, including this one. Every one of your responses to me begins with an accusation, and several folks on this forum have PMed me to steer-clear of you. (They explained what you're really like) Please leave me in peace.
I left the discussion in that other topic, because you were bending everyone to your will. You were the god of everything in that topic, and I noticed that no-one could possibly dissagree with you, without being insulted, and accused of "Baiting" you. Please go back and talk to yourself in that other topic. Please leave me in peace.

Practice what you preach - you could start by coming in peace, along with all your buddies that joined last week. Many other members raised even more questions about your bait-laden thread-starter, and they have been around a lot longer than a week. Nobody at www.cleanmpg.com or www.priuschat.com has depicted me as the kind of problem you describe, nor have the long-time posters on this thread.
You never bothered to explain why your Prius can hold only two people yet it's classified as a mid-sized vehicle.
