Thought some of you might like this story. Yesterday I was driving my wife to the hospital in my Civic Hybrid. Without getting too detailed, she was going to have surgery to remove some internal organs that are causing her trouble. She was understandably nervous, so we tried to keep the chatter light. She looked over at my FE gauge and said, "How come when you drive your car you get 55 miles per gallon and I get 40?". I proceeded to bore her for 5 minutes on driving style, tire pressure, etc. I went on to describe the new wheels I'm going to purchase that will reduce the overall wheel weight by about 12 lbs and how excited I was about the weight reduction and possible increase in fuel economy. She smiled and nodded, probably thinking
I was the one that needed surgery of some kind to remove this hybrid disease.
We drive on and I break the silence by offering some words of sympathy and reassurance about her upcoming surgery. Without missing a beat, she turns to me and says, "You know, after the surgery I'll be 2 or 3 pounds lighter. That ought to help your fuel economy when you drive me home."
Now
that's a good woman.
PS - she did very well with the surgery and we're looking forward to having her home.
