With higher prices say good by to
UPS
FED EX
Internet purchasing
speedy delivery of goods
the trucking industry as we know it
diversity of goods
diversity of foods
and maybe YOUR JOB
We need to develop our untapped oil NOW, plus nuclear, coal and other sources on our way to a cleaner future. Otherwise we will bow to the PEOPLES REPUBLIC of China. They will find the energy they need regardless of the environment. We on the other hand do a much cleaner job of energy use and are the ones that innovate the new technologies.

I assume you mean higher "oil/gas/diesel" prices. There is no question that sudden price changes will be a shock and will take some time to get adjusted to. Your outlook is a bit over negative, however. High prices will demand better efficiency, which is a good thing. Yeah it might take an extra day or two for your internet purchase to arrive but a more efficient fleet is a good thing and may even spur the job market as truckers/people purchase newer more efficient vehicles. Old inefficient junk is going to end up in a scrap heap, replaced by more modern, more efficient transportation. Someone has to make all the new hybrid trucks, right? Someone's gotta put the windmills up and maintain them (actually there is a huge shortage of trained techs, if you are looking for a job), right?
A change is coming but I'm not convinced that it is for the worse.

I don't think there is a whit worth of difference between Clinton and McCain. Both are confirmed "free traders", who will do or say just about anything to increase corporate profits. Both spent most of the last 20 years pandering to corporations. Neither gives a **** about anything but money.
I'm not sure about Obama. There just might be an honest thought, there.
But, considering that both McCain and Clinton are just about as "green" as RoundUp (that kills anything that grows), I think we can safely say that Obama is by far the "greenest". Not because he is so green, but because both opponents are so extremely anti-green.

Allow me just to correct one statement you made about Clinton. She is the only candidate that says the two words that should be music to all of our ears..."electric car". Especially, given the fact gas is almost $4/gallon. She is a proponent for alternative energy (not CORN/ethanol either), and wants to tax the OIL companies. I have only heard biodiesel from Obama, which isn't the only green solution. I do agree with you about McCain. I have not heard anything from him about GREEN which should scare all of us, considering our current REPUBLICAN OIL situation.

Hello - McCain has been talking about PHEVs. He has a reasonably green platform. He is adamant about getting off of oil - more so than anyone else. His reason is security more so than the environment but has bee talking about GW for awhile.

Clinton started saying those things just a few weeks ago, after her campaign manager identified the price of gas as an issue, and her focus group identified the words that you have listed as a way to get votes. Prior to a few weeks ago, I never heard Clinton say any such thing.
Or course, any pragmatic Democrat would be an improvement over any idealogue Republican. At least she seems willing to listen to her focus groups.

FWIW,
FedeX seems to be the greenest of the carriers. They are actively replacing trucks with hybrid units, and they have several plants which operate very large solar arrays. Just something to think about next time you need something shipped. I am in no way affiliated with FedeX.

FedEx is great and they are the leader in hybrid use, but I think all the carriers are heading towards hybrids. Hybrids are perfect for all the start/stop driving they do.

Re: Who will be the GREENEST President?
That would be the one who is most in touch with science, engineering and empirical reality. Right now, folks are deciding but my choice was based upon who factually, accurately told me not what I would like to hear but the truth.
A telling question would be to rank past Presidents by 'Green': - GW Bush
- Bill Clinton
- Geo Bush
- Reagan
- Carter
- Ford
- Nixon
- Johnson
- Kennedy
- Eisenhower
- Truman
My order: - Carter - national speed limit, solar, alternate fuels
- Clinton - 80 MPG car program
- Ford - common sense
- ...
- ...
- ...
- ...
- Nixon - fireplace with AC on
- GW Bush - undid Clinton's work on 80 MPG cars
- Reagan - undid Carter's work on fuel and efficiency

Bob- that was EXCELLENT!! I think the "GREEN FINGER" points to a Democratic President based on the past facts. Unfortunately, the past is very indicative of the future. We had 8 years of BIG OIL Programs when we should have been concentrating on moving down the GREEN PATH. If we kept Democratic Presidents in office, we all could been driving EVs now!!!
