Re: Why did you buy a hybrid?
I have a hybrid?
*Checks*
Well, what do you know. That dealer scammed me! He told me it was a magic SUV!
I needed a new vehicle, as my '95 Explorer was going kaput on me, I'm Ford A plan, and had some money ready to be used for a new vehicle, and did the research online, both with Ford and at places like here. I test drove, and made the purchase. I tend to drive a lot of miles in a year, and with gas prices on the rise, I figure I'm going to come out way ahead in a decade. I love tech stuff, the environmental stuff is a bonus, and I get to save and make a statement at the same time. No, it's not an environmental statement, it's one to all the people who complain about SUVs. Yeah, it's pretty much a screw you. I love it (And it has happened to me) when someone complained about my "gas guzzler". I asked them how many MPGs they were getting, to which they proudly proclaimed 18. I told them I was getting 33, (My last fill up at the times average) and called them the gas guzzler. They saw the hybrid markings, actually apologized, and shut up.

THAT is a funny story!

Re: Why did you buy a hybrid?
I originally did a spread sheet for the next 5 years and found that I'd need to see $5.80 for gas or start a job 60 miles away to break even. The price for the hybrid I wanted was $40K. Tricked out Ford Escape. Anyways, I had no intention of buying one but wanted to test drive it.
About 3 minutes into the drive I concluded it had guts but the price was still steep. Money was the driving factor and not spotted owls. So, I am waiting at a light and get *** ended by some lady. No injuries but a nice ding on the rear bumper.
About 3 days later the dealership calls me and said they couldn't sell it as new, nobody wanted it as it was in an accident. But since I knew what happened I might consider buying it if they took it down to $500 over invoice. That was an $8,000 savings.
I took it and the bumper was fixed by the lady's insurance.
Care to top that?

Re: Why did you buy a hybrid?
I got mine because having been spoiled by geo metros for 10 years of driving I wanted a car that I only had to put about 10 gallons in every two weeks. Basicly because I"m lazy. Of course now I'm filling up ever 3 weeks so I'm pretty much ahead of the game in my mind.

Opps! - did not realize it you could click all the choices. #3 was my choice. Saving money is my secondary motivation.

LOL, I heard that hybrid cars get green chicks to put out. So far, that seems to be false.
