And of the 11 above, how many occured ONLY in the last 5 1/2 years since Bush has been in office. Let's be realistic, please.

Re: Why is gas so cheap?
Can we add "mis-managing Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, accusing anyone who disagrees of treason, freakish levels of secrecy, blatant disregard for the Geneva Conventions and civil liberties, not increasing national security (while claiming to do so), and not being able to pronounce 'nuclear'"?
We're a nation of moderates, and it's only the ends of the spectrum that capture people's attention. As a whole, the country has shifted to the right. If the left seems so extreme, maybe it's because they haven't moved right as quickly as everyone else. In the 70's, "the left" was marked as free-love hippies. Do you really think Liberals are as liberal now as they were then?
Finally, since Ashen was trotting out his conspiracy theory, I'll trot out mine: I think there was an agreement (whether tacit or explicit) between petroleum and automotive manufacturers. We don't raise our oil prices too much and you don't raise your efficiency too much. Then thanks to Cheney's little energy policy meeting, the oil companies got greedy, upset the applecart, and left American auto makers hanging in the wind.

Re: Why is gas so cheap?
Of course, my conspiracy and Blinkard's are not mutually exclusive. You could have BushCorp pulling some oil strings for the benefit of the beleagured Republican party while at the same time the Wasteful Three are pushing for temporary price reductions so that people start buying 11 MPG luxury SUVs again.
Bush dislikes hybrids because it involves science, and that the King James Bible never mentions hybrid cars. Thus hybrids must be bad. The Wasteful Three don't like hybrids because, quite frankly, they missed the boat by a full decade. Big Oil certainly doesn't like the idea that fast, safe, affordable cars can get 40+ MPG (with 70-80 MPG technology less than 5 years away).
So do I think a three-way conspiracy is probable? Maybe not. But possible? Sure.
