Default Will Cerberus Lead Chrysler Into Hybrid Car Market?

Money losing Chrysler has been saved from bankruptcy after being bought by Cerberus.

My first instinctive reaction to this news was, great ! They are going to start with a fresh new slate and set bold new plans for fuel efficient cars.

Chrysler has earned some respect with more fuel efficent SUV's lately, getting over 30mpg, hopefully they will capitalize on that. Maybe Cerebus saw some potential?

Unfortunetely Cerberus has a reputation as a company that thrives on taking over stuggling companies and reselling them later after slashing costs (jobs).

After losing 40000 employees in the last 10 years it looks like there's more layoff's ahead and those that aren't laid off will have to make some concessions. I wonder what the salaries are of the top Union executives representing these employees during this time?

Good luck Chrysler, looks your going to need it,

I suspect the Chrysler Group will be used, sold off member by member, then discarded.

There was an excellent article that speculated (and at this point of time all is speculation) that the most likely strategy is to keep the units that have a solid brand name recognition (i.e. Jeep); and shut down or sell the assets on everything else. Then sell that brand name to another automaker.

Essentially, the conclusion was that Chrysler's days as an independent auto company are gone.

Again, this is only speculation.....
