Excellent observation. These folks are the most dangerous lot.
I'd draw a distinction between highway positioning that may involve a bit of speed (like Ashen was talking about) and those being intentionally aggressive (and further down the line, those bent on revenge). It's the folks that dart in and out of traffic, cut people off, tailgate, etc. that get me. However I don't think the root cause is ambition/aggressive lifestyle. Think of why folks are the way Delta described - they are, at the root of it all, selfish. They look out for themselves, often at others expense. I think it's this selfishness that translates to aggressive driving. Where they need to go and how fast is more important than anyone else, and they're willing to risk the safety of others to do it. Wreckless and self-centered. It's a simple by-product of our me-centered society.
