My first car was a 71 Opel station wagon. When I met my wife I bought my first new car and it was a 81 Honda Civic wagon. I still look back and ask myself "why a station wagon" Oh well, we now drive a 01 Tahoe (with no major repairs, remember some people love to bash GM, I can't) and a 04 HCH.kevin

My current GM is 13 years old and at 178,000 miles. No major problems whatsoever.

My current Ford is at 47 years old and at 96,000 miles. No major problems in the six years that I've owned her. I didn't hear of any major problems from the previous owner.

My previous Ford didn't have any problems either.

My previous VW was 12 years old and 170,000 miles when the tranny went out. I wouldn't classify that as a defect, although I thought a VW should last longer.

My previous Dodge was very problematic. After less than 10 years of ownership, that $11,000 car sold for $800, which was more than it was worth. We spent thousands trying to keep that thing running.

My previous Toyota kept breaking it's turbo. Such a nice car, but not as much fun without the turbo.

My previous Mitsubishi didn't have a single problem.

So many cars; here's just a few.

I'd definitely buy another GM or Ford product. But only certain models. Yes, the aura surrounding American automobiles is still negative due to the Japanese making more reliable cars in the past. But American automobiles have definitely improved. Just look at the reliability ratings! I'd scan them and post them here, but I think that may be a copyright issue if I did. Sure, they still haven't caught up to the Japanese, but they're still much better than they used to be.

One vote for Subaru, since my family had two of those, and I had one (my very first car), when I was "growing up" (i.e., between age 16, when I started driving, and, say, 25), and only one each of anything else (one VW when I first started learning; before I was driving there was a Chevy and a Mazda; and my second and third vehicles were a Volvo and a Nissan). My mom has had nothing but Subarus since, except for one Mazda which was a gift.

I shifted over to Geo/Chevy at age 30, to Ford at 40, and to Toyota at 43, but I think I was mostly "all growed up" by then!

This is a poll I can't answer. Here's why

First two cars - GM
Next 3 cars - Mazdas
Next 2 cards - Fords
Next car - VW
Next car - Subaru
Next car - Subaru
This car - Toyota

I guess if there was a primarily Asian lately option I could answer.
