155. You are pissed off that the semi truck you are trying to draft behind accelerates too quickly from the stop lights.

Happened to me on Rt 206 in rural NJ - he must have had an empty trailer - I was like C'mon dude slow it down a little. Didn't help he wanted to cruise at 80 MPH either. I only managed 59 MPG on that stint. I have a feeling he didn't like his "bumper sticker".

156. You have to do a quick evasive maneuver to avoid an accident with some jerk and you realize that you're *really* ticked off at the other driver, not because he just threatened your life with his car but because he caused you to accelerate and screw up your MPG.

157. You only fill your gas tank half way because gas is so heavy.
The weight of a full tank would hurt your MPG.

158. You fight with your spouse over who's driving the FEH and who's stuck with the pickup truck each day.
159. You'd trade in the truck in a heartbeat for a hybrid that would tow your boat.
160. You seriously consider selling the 20' powerboat and buying a canoe so you can move it with the hybrid.
161. You spend 30 minutes reading each thread and copying the list into a word document so you can see them all at one time.
162. You write a letter to the highway dept. suggesting they offer discounts on tolls to hybrid vehicles.

It looks like the new crop of hybrids will make this a reality since they have more torque and hp than the gas-only versions.

Question Re: You know you're a real hybrid owner when...

I have some quick questions about how the average miles per gallon works (on the Prius), because they've been nagging at my brain since I first explored and discovered all of the neat new toy features of the car.

First, does being stopped at a light, and not actually going anywhere, decrease the reported gas mileage? Because I know that I get above my given mileage (yes, I'm just that fanatical about it, give me a break, it's a new toy!), and one major culprit seems to be the fact that when driving around town, and using only electric power (manually, not with the mod that makes it so), the average miles per gallon is lower, because any time I'm completely stopped, the miles per gallon hits zero. At some lights, this significantly sucks away at my average over the five minute increments.

The way I figure, it figures out the time by saying "Miles/Hour" divided by 'gallons/hour' gives miles per gallon(instantaneous), and average miles per gallon is just the integral of that graph (m/g/time), divided by total time. I know that the division by zero when speed is not equal to 0 also skews the average somewhat, but I am curious as to how much.

Any thoughts?

148. On the way home from picking the kids up from school, the topic is 'MPG', and not what they did that day.

...THAT implies you stopped and then accelerated. EVIL!! A real hybrid driver (honda, at least) always uses the other for local runs in the name of kepping good tank mpg going.

163. Your friends version of the ULTIMATE April Fools joke is to ADD a gallon of gas to your car so you think you are getting stellar gas mileage!

164. You've become known as "that guy with the Hybrids". (or girl, whatever applies)

165. You've printed out information sheets about your car and had them laminated so you can show people what it's really all about, not just great gas mileage but the tons of technology in the car too.

166. You're overjoyed when you see another hybrid on the road but devastated when they don't wave back.

'00 Insight "Wazabi" -75,000+ miles
'03 Toyota Matrix - 81,000+ miles

167. As you drive down Pikes Peak and stop at the midway point for a mandatory hot brake check, the inspector says your brake is "240", then you ask if it's the voltage?
