The domestics often come with discounts and rebates and the foreign makes don't.

The resale prices are probably based on the MSRP not the real price people pay.

The resale prices on VW TDI models appears to be quite high.

GM's "Employee Pricing" scheme didn't help the resale value of their vehicles, that's for sure!.

When I bought the Prius a month ago, the salesman pointed out just how well the Prius held its value. He showed me prices that used ones had sold for recently.

Recent news articles show that the salesman was right regarding Prius resale values. This was just another check in the plus column for choosing a Prius, one that I was unaware of until the salesman pointed it out to me.

I sold my VW TDI last month for a higher than avg. price (esp. the wagons) - they are really hot in the green states - and also because of bio-diesel use - people will pay a premium for them.

We can definitely feel good about these results, since both the Prius and HCH made the top ten list and the bottom ten include a bunch of minivans and SUVs. We are not a niche group, here, wanting to buy hybrids and appreciating their value- we are the MAINSTREAM, and the economics back us up. If people are voting with their wallets, then they are voting for hybrids. Hybrids are going to win the market battle! It's an accident of hourly proof.

Resale value only matters if you want to sell your car. I tend to keep the ones I buy until they give up the ghost.

Resale value also matters if you are trying to convince someone else to buy a hybrid. Even if you plan to run yours into the ground, other people make purchasing decisions based on resale value, because it's partly a perception of quality and desireability. So even though I plan to keep mine and not resell it, I'm glad the resale values are high.
