As many of the world's hydrogen fuel and vehicle experts gather in Southern California this week to help guide surface transportation along its evolutionary path, there is the realization that serious building blocks must emerge to make clean, hydrogen-fueled vehicles a reality.

One of those crucial elements, along with an expanding "Hydrogen Highway Network" fueling infrastructure, is the ability to outfit vehicles with safe and efficient on-board hydrogen storage. Texaco Ovonic Hydrogen Systems LLC (TOHS), a joint venture of Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD Ovonics) (Nasdaq: ENER) and ChevronTexaco Technology Ventures LLC, is demonstrating how this can be achieved through the use of its metal-hydride hydrogen storage system in a modified hydrogen-electric variant of today's best-selling hybrid sedan.
