Default Toyota plans new, bigger hybrid cars

Quote:
TOKYO, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Toyota Motor Corp., the world's leader in hybrid cars, plans to introduce a new hybrid-only model in 2009. The model will be a midsize sedan with a 2.5- to 3-liter-engine, larger than that of the 1.5-liter Prius hatchback, Toyota's first hybrid, Japan's Asahi Shumbun reported Wednesday.
The new model is intended to serve U.S. car buyers, who like hybrids and prefer bigger engines.
Toyota is considering other hybrid-only models, such as a station wagon and a minivan, to spur sales of hybrid vehicles, the newspaper said.

Sounds like the TCH.

Or are they talking about a hybrid avalon?

What I would really like is a hybrid 3/4 ton diesel tuck that I can tow with. One that gets 25 - 30 MPG unloaded and 15 - 20 loaded.

I wouldn't mind seeing a hybrid car of "B" size as well. A Toyota hybrid the size of a Fit or Versa would be a great option. I'd consider a hybrid station wagon as well.

The minivan sounds like what my wife would want with optional:
  1. 6 kW whole house AC power
  2. camper options
  3. light duty tow option

I would love a wagon option or mini van option!

I wonder when Toyota will offer TDI hybrids? Toyota's partenership with Isuzu makes this look likely. Here is an article that mentions Toyota will integrate a diesel engine into its Synergy hybrid powertrain, and is working on a diesel Prius prototype.
