Re: Prius II - 100 + MPG Marathon Attempt - Live Updates ...
Ok for those of us (me) not familiar with the SuperMID ... what is it and what does it do? I'm impressed with what you guys have accomplished and am in awe of your 'hypermiling.' What pressure and what tires do you use?

For SuperMID info, see:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...FNENPIKEI.html
The tires were the original OEM's with 46K miles on them and the pressure was a "tad" bit more than what Toyota recommends.

does anything like the Super MID exist for the HCH?
...most likely a donkey, but if he had to drive a car, i bet it would be a hybrid.

Ken, without your SuperMID I don't think there is any way we could have done what we did. It gave us the feedback we needed to keep honing our technique as we went. And I think all the drivers would agree that we didn't in any way establish the apex of what the Prius is capable of, but rather established a high altitude base camp from which future assaults on the yet to be identified summit can be launched. The rate at which we improved as we interpreted data from your wonderful instrument and shared techniques was astounding to us. For me to set a mark on my second attempt that would have been our best to date a few shifts earlier but in actuality dropped our average a tenth by the time I did it is just one indicator of how quickly we improved as we went. If we had the energy and time to start all over again today I can't even imagine what we might have been capable of, but would need another day to get all the extra driving in.
Thanks again - you were a critical part of our success.

Oh, and one correlation I don't think anyone has mentioned yet - if you compare the people in the pic to their fuel economy in the marathon, I think it's clear that the less hair you have, the better your performance.....the sacrifices I make for a full head of hair!

Re: Prius II - 100 + MPG Marathon Attempt - Live Updates ...
Hi Dan, Wayne and Dave,
Thank you for your warm words about my SuperMID.
My feeling was I sent my son(SuperMID) to your team to accomplish
very important tasks and I was watching how he was doing very
carefully from the overseas.
As Wayne posted the SuperMID's data, I was relieved post by post.
When I saw the final results, I said to my son "Good Job!".
The data was very good I think. The distance counter was no errors
from the Prius counter and the fuel usage was within the acceptable range.
I have never been to the east coast before.
I'm sure I'll call Dan, Wayne and Dave if I had any opportunity to
come to the east coast.
Thanks again and best regards,
Ken@Japan

Ken,
Your son performed admirably! Yes the distance was dead on, and the fuel consumption did differ from the fill amount, but i suspect that the results were closer to the SuperMID display than the calculated results.
Thanks for letting me adopt your son. He is now part of my family.
Hopefully you can come visit him next year at the 2006 Prius marathon.
Thanks again,
Dan
