Way to go Marsha. Only 100? Doesn't sno779 average 100 mpg?

.

Thanks,

Chris

I don't average 100 but have had 4 tanks that were over 100 MPG. I just replaced my throttle body and my mileage for the last three days has returned to 100+ MPG, so I'm hoping for some more 100+ MPG tanks.....Louis

Does it count if I get 100 MPG in my Ford Escape with a plug-in Lithium pack?
Or is that cheating?

Just wondering if I should shell out the bucks for that big battery.

Well you would get a green star for saving the planet, but to say you got 100 miles per (GALLON) could open up a whole new can of worms. Our current use of the term MPG assumes a single source of energy, but if you add an outside source of electricity, how would you measure that? 37.5MPG+???kw/100miles maybe or ??? GALLONS+???KW/100miles. Sort of like the metric way of keeping track of mileage.

How far could you go on the lithium battery? I see you can get 50+mpg on gas, can you get 50 miles out of the lithium battery? I suppose on a short daily commute you could get much more then 100MPG with multiple chargings but on a long road trip you might only get about 40 or so electric miles....Louis

Thanks, Sno. I'm not 100% sure my actual mileage on that tank was that good or if there was a filling anomally. However, I am about to post a tank at 100.5 mpg that was earned the hard way. I think 8 or 9 of the 11 75-95 mile trips on my current tank have been over 100 mpg. Today I even managed stay at 100 despite some wind and a recharge cycle. I wonder if it's me or if the car is doing better as it ages. Two years ago, almost identical trips were averaging about 95 mpg.

Here's a hypermiler terror: I actually got hit from behind by a truck when I was tooling along at 45 mph on a quiet secondary road, no traffic in sight. One minute I was daydreaming, the next he was 10 feet behind me bearing down like a ... a... a really big truck going really fast! Did this idiot miscalculate, or was he just asleep? I'll never know because he didn't even slow down. Talk about hit and run! I haven't rubbed out the modest scuff on my bumper. It's a one-of-a-kind hypermiler merit (?) badge.

Marsha

Congratulations on your second 100+ mpg tank. There may be others, but you are one of only two women that I know of that can do it. The cars don't normally get better with age, although worn tires are known to give better MPG. So I'm guessing you're learning new hypermiler tricks. I'll admit I try almost any trick that comes down the line, but I've never tried the get a sleeping truck driver to push me trick. I might just leave that one to you.(glad to hear you are OK)

I have found it impossible to fill the tank to the same level of fullness tank after tank so I use the FCD numbers for my records. Just last week I logged my 5th 100+ MPG tank. I had been having some throttle body problems that kept the mpg down but nothing that $1400 couldn't fix.....Louis
