Default Ethanol map?

Hi,

I recently flew to Florida to pickup my wife's life-long, birthday wish, an RV only to discover on the drive back how little information is available about the ethanol ratio at the pumps. In Florida, they state "May contain up to 10% ethanol by volume." In south Alabama, "Contains ethanol" with no clue as to the amount.

Could someone repost how to measure the ethanol content in gasoline? If I remember correctly you add a measured amount of water to the gas sample and then mix throughly and measure the change in the water volume?

A Google request returned only a geographical map of current and planned ethanol plants. Curiously, Huntsville and north Alabama is centered in an area without ethanol plants:

Alcohol and water will combine and sink to the bottom layer.
Gasoline floats to the top later.

I mixed vigorously by putting a cork in the top and shaking, and it took forever ( 2 hours? ) for all the air to come out of suspension.
So while you do need to mix, mix gently!

"Stirred, not shaken" may be the better way to go if you are in a hurry.
