I started filling up more often to beat gas increasing gas prices before prices were over $2.50, but for some reason now I haven't been doing that. I guess I keep hoping it will come back down but I know that it will continually increase. My luck, I'll fill up to beat the rising price and the next day it will come right back down.

You should fill up tomorrow Adam, that way prices will be nice and low for me when I fill up on Thursday.

I don't fill up often so much to save on price, but I started doing it back in February when there were a few hints here and there (mostly in the business press) about possible spot-shortages of gasoline this summer. I shoot weddings for a living, and no bride is ever going to want to hear "I can't make it to your wedding because there was no gas anywhere." I only drive to weddings now (which can be anything from 5 miles to 250 miles) and I top off at the gas station around the corner from my house on my way home. Other than that I just ride my bike or the bus.

Hey, if you average my bike and bus mileage into my Honda Accord (non-hybrid) mileage, I bet I get as good mileage as the best hypermilers here :-).

Can't wait until I can afford a plug-in Prius and not have to worry quite so much about oil and gas supplies.

More often for two reasons for me;
  1. To stay ahead of the daily increases, as much as 10 cents a gallon. <
  2. To avoid sticker shock of filling up and buying 20 gallons Vs 6 gallons. <
I know for number 2 it ends up the same, but it sure feels a lot better paying $20 Vs $60+.

After today's 13.xxx gallon fillup I will second that. I hadn't bought gas since April 16th and it was rather painful to watch the total climb past $40 for probably the first time ever. I originally said I haven't been filling frequently but I may change my ways just to take some of the mental sting out.

When gas prices are rising, I fill up before 1/2 tank. When they are falling, I fill up around 1/4 tank. This lowers the average price per gallon that you pay.

I hadn't been but I sure have considered it. The problem is how much gas do I use in a week, or even every few days. I use one gallon per day. Not sure how worth it is unless it proves a point to the powers that be that we are not very happy about the current situation.
