This document is a result of my research for those of us new to learning about vehicles that produce less 'bad' emissions and get 'better' mileage. Please help out by commenting on errors and omissions. You have my permission to reproduce all or portions.

lakedude, and sdcatcher,
I did some searching on the different smog scores on HCHs prior to buying ours and discovered there are 2 engine versions: the ...3YCV and the ....33A6 (which a honda site referred to as the "lean burn" engine).
the 3YCV has the better smog score and is sold in ca & ny. it's also a AT-PZEV not ULEV, which I think is a lower level of emissions too.

When I asked my dealer "which engine does it have" he told me "the 1.3L" and I said "yes, but which one?" and he thought I was nuts. dealer didn't know anything about different versions. the only way I've been able to discover which engine a particular car has is look under the hood at the emission sticker; about half way down you'll see the engine type in the middle of a string of numbers. (I've got a 3YCV)

I am very curious about distribution of the 2 different types over the country, but I've been unable to find out anything short of driving around to dealers and looking under the hoods. I'm also curious as to the difference between the two- but nobody seems to even know there are 2 versions.

looking forward to anymore info showing up here!

PS
different gas tank sizes with engines too:
ULEV has 13g tank and AT-PZEV has 11g tank

kinda makes "farthest on a tank" award a little unequal, eh?

Looks like Honda makes one engine for CARB country (CA, most of the northeast US), and another for the rest of the country. The cleaner engine is SULEV, the dirtier one ULEV.

Is this right, HCH owners ?
