I don't mean to be insensitive about those with bigger problems regarding Hurricane Katrina on So. Florida and where ever she should next hit. Probably Florida again.
If you could send something via red cross, etc it would be appreciated.

But this is the Fuel and Economy thread and really I just wanted to point out how much these storms can effect fuel consumption.
The last tropical storm Dennis rolled across Alabama, and dumped around 4 inches of rain here in the Atlanta area.
The estimated track of Katrina is right over Atlanta and rain estimates are 4-7 inches along most of its path.

Dennis dropped my tank by about 15MPG.
These storms really hurt.

The actual rain is bad enough in killing momentum, but the traffic my god the traffic...

I lost a little bit today on my trips to and from work because everyone freaks out, and we're only getting the outer bands of Katrina so far. Fun fun fun.

___Besides the possibility of extreme damage and possible loss of life with this one, there is another problem with her … It appears as if Katrina is going to be not only bigger but hit the wrong part of the Gulf and Gulf Coast to give the entire world fits in terms of oil production/supply … Watch what happens to oil futures as they open up Sunday night in the Far East and make there way around the globe. > 500,000 BPD have been taken off line as of the last few hours and god knows what’s next? If you have a tank that needs filling, you may want to consider filling it in the morning because by Monday, you might see a spike like you may never have imagined?

___In either case, I think it might be time for a prayer for those stuck in New Orleans and surrounding areas

It looks like us here in Ga have escaped the bullet but I hope it doesn't hit New Orleans directly.
The wifey and I visited there last winter and alot of the coastal structures date back to the early 1800's.

What's worse is the city is actually several feet below sea level. (It's kind of wierd because you stand on the street and see the river flowing above you)

The potential for disastrous flooding there is very real.

The hundreds of millions of dollars in Biloxi, MS's casino ships wouldn't be so great to take the brunt of it either.
